Originally developed for the Swedish Department of Defense, our legendary Swedish FireSteel® is the original magnesium fire starter. Our second generation Swedish FireSteel 2.0® comes with an improved striker that makes it even easier to build a fire in any weather and at any altitude. It has a new design, a color matched flexible cord and a built-in emergency whistle.

Excellent and essential piece of kit for any outdoorsman

Can't praise this enough. With fire being an essential camping/survival element, one of these is an almost limitless source. The particular model is a fantastic compromise between weight and durability. I also have the larger Swedish Army Firesteel which is significantly heavier but lasts even longer. Both are of excellent build quality. Produces excellent sparks, as with all firesteels it takes a couple of practice tries for a beginner.As kit goes, this and a penknife are the two most essential pieces of gear you should always keep on you out in the bush.
